About Bruce H. Winkelman

Bruce has thousands of hours of mediation experience, having received about 150 hours of professional mediation training in community, civil, commercial, appellate, and advanced mediation issues.

Bruce taught mediation and insurance law as an adjunct professor of law at Golden Gate University, School of Law. He has published articles and lectured on numerous alternative dispute resolution and mediation topics.

In almost 40 years experience as an attorney emphasizing insurance coverage and complex, large-scale litigation, Bruce has been recognized by his peers as a “Best Lawyer” (since 2010), “Super Lawyer” (since 2008 -14 years) and “AV-Rated Preeminent”.

Bruce has mediated cases for the United States District Court, Northern District of California mediation panel, the First Appellate District Mediation Program, United States Bankruptcy Court mediation panel, and a variety of local bar association and Superior Court mediation panels. He has served as a member of the California State Bar, Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, and is a member of The Mediation Society.

Bruce was the co-founder and managing partner of Craig & Winkelman LLP, a Best Lawyers recognized law firm. Prior to that, Bruce was an attorney at Boornazian, Jensen & Garthe from 1986-2003.

Bruce obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego where he was a founding editor of the Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of California, Berkeley. Go Bears!

Bruce is an avid photographer (all of the photographs on this website are his), enjoys hiking with his wife & dog, and spending time with his three (grown) kids and grandchild.
